In July 2005 I had the privilege of spending a weekend with Rudy Smith here in the Panyard where he carried out his first tuning visit to our location. In the last 30 years I have been ‘in pan’ I have spent hundreds of hours with pan makers and pan tuners. I have made (not tuned) many pans. I have watched, listened and learnt. I am not a pan tuner and I have no plans to become one and what I experienced ‘listening’ to Rudy working and the final results has just reconfirmed this for me. It is a privilege & great pleasure to have been in the company of a master.

March 2011
Since the introduction to "Steelpans" on our website we have been refining our production methods with regard to pan making in collaboration with Rudy Smith and pan makers in Trinidad.
As a result of an experiment/test that we carried out in 2009 we have arrived at an optimum "making" process that combines the best of both worlds, Trinidad & Europe and included the high standards of health and safety that are mandatory here in Switzerland. All our "front line" pans, tenors (sopranos), double tenors & double second pans are made for us by our pan makers in Trinidad to Rudy Smith measurements and specifications. On arrival in Switzerland the instruments are cleaned and prepared for tuning or cleaned, prepared & pre-tuned ready for chroming.
All cleaning and chroming processes are governed by Swiss health and safety regulations that ensuring the well being of all concerned in these potentially hazardous procedures. The initial result in 2009 of a chromed double second and a chromed double tenor were very pleasing indeed. After being played for a year and then passed under the scrutiny of Rudy Smith the results are extremely exciting. The double tenor lives here in The Panyard and is the property of Katja Schmitt so it is available for scrutiny and inspection on request. For a recommendation regarding the double second please contact Patrik Bernhard as this pan was made for him. We look forward to meeting you and you enjoying this new quality of instruments that we have to offer.
